Spoke to the manager and he said they would correct their mistake. Saturday I get the car and after I get home I pull the wheel to check the work: The bushing was installed 90 degrees off! Everything else the mechanic loosened appeared to be installed correctly.īack to NTB. He assured me that his mechanics do this job regularly and that it will be done right. I specifically told the manager at NTB that the new bushing had to be installed in the same orientation (rotation) as the old and offered to let him borrow my GM Service Manual that has a warning about this with the installation procedure and diagram. ![]() ![]() At their likely jobber cost of about $70, that represents somewhat in excess of a whopping 300% markup!! The actual install time was about 1/2 hour, which I could have easily done in my driveway in the same amount of time, but I was charged a full hour at what proved to also be an excessive rate of $88.00. I was shocked when presented with a parts bill for $300. As I had been a vehicle dealership parts manager and am therefore familiar with the typical markup schedules, as well as jobber discounts of course, I declined, expecting their cost not to exceed about $70 total and with a typical markup of %100, the total parts cost should not have exceeded $150 at the very max. The salesman asked if I wanted to see the cost. As an experienced auto mechanic myself, I readily agreed. ![]() A technician inspected the suspension and steering prior to mounting the tires, and found the outer tie rod ends had excessive play in them and that they needed to be changed prior to alignment. I had a set of tires installed which was done quickly, efficiently, and with good workmanship.
